I created this project using a maple branch cyanotyped onto cotton with family photos. Some of the negatives I made from shooting with a 4×5 camera, and some others I found at my grandparents house in Owen Sound, without any corresponding photographs. My family didnt know who was in them really, and this sparked my idea to print them and add them to a family tree. I have a very small extended family and in recent years they’ve expressed the important of knowing where your roots are, trying to figure out the faces in old photos and writing their names on the back. I figure this is my way of doing my part and making something of my own to show where I come from.

I’ve just started to learn about traditional processing and I love how grounding it is to slow down and actually tangibly make something.
